The ex-eagles footballer was arrested on drug and family violence charges earlier this week.
Friends of fallen football star Ben Cousins said he attempted to use his 2005 Brownlow Medal to pay for drugs.
Cousins father Brian reportedly kept the medal hidden from him.
The Herald Sun reported Brian Cousins was forced to hide the medal from his son.
“He tried to sell his Brownlow … but he doesn’t even have it. His dad has the Brownlow in safekeeping,” an unnamed friend said.
“He said he needed it to guarantee a bank loan, but why would he need a bank loan? He doesn’t have any property, he doesn’t have a business.”
On Tuesday Cousins was arrested on drug and family violence charges.
He was refused bail and will spend the next two months behind bars to reappear in Court at a later date.
