The man appeared in Mandurah Magistrates Court this morning on three drug related charges.
Clifford Kevin Jenkin pleaded guilty to cultivating a prohibited plant, possessing drug paraphernalia, and possession of prohibited drugs.
Around 8am on Thursday 4 October, 2018, police executed a misuse of drugs search warrant at a residence on Church Street, Dwellingup.
There they found over 3.8 kilograms of cannabis in multiple locations and in various stages of drying, two hydroponic set ups with 11 plants, and scissors and a smoking implement believed to be drug paraphernalia.
His defence stated he was involved in a bicycle accident many years ago, and more recently thought he may have cancer.
As a result of his poor health, he decided to use cannabis to deal with the pain.
Magistrate Anne Longden argued he could have found legal avenues to help deal with any pain.
"It is a fairly large amount of cannabis," she said.
"I think a fine will be inadequate in this case."
Mr Jenkin was sentenced to a 12 month community based order.
