Three inmates have been injured after a riot broke out at Banksia Hill Detention Centre.
Officers in riot gear were called to the facility around 7.20pm on Thursday after a group of seven youths started a fire and began smashing windows.
Staff inside the complex feared for their safety and were forced to lock themselves in a room during the rampage.
Special Operations Group officers moved in and used stun grenades and pepper spray to bring the situation under control.
A Corrective Services department spokesperson said three inmates were injured in the incident.
One had an asthma attack, one suffered a cut to his leg and the other received an eye injury.
The damage bill is thought to be around $250,000.
It was the sixth disturbance at the juvenile detention centre in the past eight months.
