Member for Canning Andrew Hastie wants volunteer-run community groups to apply for funding from the Turnbull Government.
Local community groups have a chance to share in $20 million worth of volunteer grants, with applications now open for the 2018 round of funding.
Canning MP Andrew Hastie said any eligible organisations and individuals in the area should apply for funding as soon as possible.
“This programme funds volunteer-based community groups in our region to cover their operation expenses like buying equipment, reimbursing volunteers’ fuel costs, and paying for training courses or background screening checks for volunteers,” he said.
“This is yet another great opportunity for our local volunteer-based groups. Grants of between $1,000 and $5,000 are up for grabs, and I’m pleased to see local volunteers will be recognised for their hard work."
Recently volunteer grants have been awarded to several groups in the Canning electorate, including Mandurah Historical Society, Peel Aquatic Club and Waroona Youth Advisory Council.
Funding helps community organisations to assist their volunteers and further encourage volunteering.
“This new round will deliver additional support to our region’s small volunteer organisations, which help many of our most vulnerable citizens with essential services," Mr Hastie said.
“The flexibility and practicality of the Volunteer Grants is what makes them so accessible to our community.
“The Volunteer Grants programme recognises the valuable work of Australia’s volunteers."
Mr Hastie encouraged all not-for-profit organisations in the Peel region and the Perth Hills to apply for the Volunteer Grants.
Applications close Tuesday September 18.
