Detectives are investigating a serious assault in Rockingham that left a man with a broken cheek bone and head injuries.
The victim rode his bike to the Val Street jetty around midnight on April 16 before he sat down and spoke to a woman for some time.
About 4.20am, the victim was approached by another man who appeared to be fishing on the jetty and was in possession of a tomahawk
After finishing the conversation with the woman, the victim walked away and the man punched him in the back of the head.
The victim turned around and was punched twice more to his face.
Despite his injuries he was able to ride his bike home before attending hospital later that day where he was treated for a broken cheek bone and other head injuries.
The man who assaulted the victim is described as light skinned, 23-27 years of age, 165-175cm tall and medium build.
