Police are hunting a man who stabbed a dog to death while it was being exercised by its owner in a park north of Perth.
A 22-year-old woman was exercising her four-year-old Golden Labrador off the lead at the park on Apple Blossom Drive in Mirrabooka around 6pm on Wednesday when the man allegedly approached the dog and stabbed it causing it to collapse.
When the owner went to confront the alleged attacker, he tried to hide his identity by covering his face.
The dog was taken to a nearby vet, but it had already died before it arrived.
It was found to have an apparent stab wound.
The offender is described as about 180cm tall, slim, aged in his 40s, with a light coloured beard.
He was wearing long dark pants and a light brown zip-up "hoodie".
He was accompanied by a small tan coloured dog.
Anyone who witnessed the incident or can assist police is asked to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
