Regional Investigations Unit detectives have charged a man following an incident in Rockingham yesterday evening, Wednesday 22 December 2021.
It will be alleged that at approximately 6:20pm the man entered a shopping centre on Council Avenue wearing a motorcycle helmet. He proceeded to a jewellery store where he smashed display cabinets with a hammer and attempted to remove jewellery.
It is further alleged that he then threatened staff with a firearm and demanded jewellery.
The man left the store empty handed and but was tackled to the ground by a number of men, who held him until police arrived.
A 44-year-old man from Ravenswood has been charged with:
• Aggravated Armed Robbery
• Possess unlicensed firearm
• Steal Motor Vehicle
He will appear in the Rockingham Magistrates Court today, 23 December 2021.
