A police officer who was photographed allegedly using his mobile phone while waiting at traffic lights will be fined, according to WA Police.
WA Police released a statement on Wednesday after a truck driver took a photo of the officer at a set of traffic lights in Morley.
"WA Police has a no tolerance approach to using a mobile phone while driving," the statement read.
"Distraction is a main causal factor of serious and fatal crashes on our roads and we take this offence very seriously.
"We will conduct inquiries in an effort to determine the circumstances surrounding this image, which will include examining whether the officer has an explanation for their actions.
"Under the Road Traffic Code there are certain exemptions that enable officers to use such devices in specific circumstances.
"A Sergeant from the Mid West-Gascoyne District will receive a traffic infringement for using his mobile telephone while stationary at traffic control lights ( Section 265 (2) of the Road Traffic Code 2000), which attracts a penalty of $400 and three demerit points."
