The male RSPCA officer attended a property on Monday afternoon after reports a dog had been strung up in a barn.
A verbal altercation allegedly occurred between the officer and the residents before he was punched in the face.
The inspector was treated at Armadale Hospital for lacerations.
Assaulting a public officer can carry a jail term.
