The Parks and Wildlife Service at the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions has issued a smoke alert for the southern suburbs of Perth to Mandurah extending east to Jarrahdale.
The smoke is the result of prescribed burns being carried out by the department and private property owners.
The Department of Biodiversity said smoke is expected to clear overnight.
Motorists are advised to turn on headlights if visibility is reduced due to smoke.
If smoke is particularly thick residents are encouraged to turn off air-conditioners.
