Speed camera operator threatened

A Cloverdale man has been charged after allegedly threatening the operator twice.

Belmont Police have charged a man after a Speed Camera Operator was threatened in Kewdale overnight.

At around 8.20pm the Speed Camera Operator was parked along Gabriel Street, near Knutsford Avenue, conducting speed detection duties.

A vehicle passed the speed camera and was detected driving 15 kilometres over the 50km/hr speed limit.

It will be alleged the man returned in two separate instances.

The first time the vehicle returned shortly after being pinged by the camera.

Police will alleged a man exited the vehicle and approached the Speed Camera Operator threatening him, while demanding the image be deleted.

Police attended the scene, however the man had left.

About 20-25 minutes later the same man returned to the scene this time armed with a large rock.

It's understood he held the rock in a threatening manner while demanding the worker exit his vehicle.

The operator remained in his police vehicle and requested urgent assistance.

Belmont Police attended the scene and the man attempted to flee the area on foot but was arrested nearby.

The 46 year old man from Cloverdale has been charged with threats to injure, endanger or harm any person and being armed in a way that may cause fear.

He'll front Perth Magistrates Court next month.
