Thousands of people are expected to descend on the Rockingham Foreshore for the Channel 7 Rockingham Beach Cup on November 13 and 14.
The iconic event is a two day festival that includes a free community fair and culminates with a series of horse races along the foreshore on Sunday.
While tickets for licensed marquee beachside areas are sold out, community members will have the opportunity to enjoy the race spectacle from the free community fair being held at Churchill Park.
On Saturday, family friendly entertainment will be delivered including live music, food and artisan markets, a visit from Channel 7’s Fat Cat at 6.15pm and an outdoor cinema screening at 7pm of Ride Like a Girl.
On Sunday, the fair continues with more live music and the popular Fashions on the Foreshore competition.
The first horse race will begin at 12.40pm on Sunday.
A distinctly unique event on the WA tourism calendar, the Channel 7 Rockingham Beach Cup drew around 16,000 people to the Rockingham Foreshore last time it was held in 2019, with more than 7,000 of these visitors coming from outside the City.
The 2019 event also injected $1.3 million into the local economy.
City of Rockingham Mayor Deb Hamblin encouraged visitors from across Rockingham and Perth to come and enjoy Australia’s most unique racing experience.
“The Channel 7 Rockingham Beach Cup combines two of Western Australia’s favourite pastimes, a day at the beach and a day at the races, and represents a terrific opportunity for visitors to come and Rediscover Rockingham,” Mayor Hamblin said.
“The event provides a wide range of family friendly entertainment options and is an outstanding showcase that demonstrates why Rockingham is known as the place where the coast comes to life. It is important to highlight that the event supports the showcase of retired racehorses and no betting takes place on the races.”
Free parking for the event will be available at the Village Green.
Attendees can also catch public transport by getting on the 555 bus from Rockingham Train Station.
