A reminder that double demerits come into force from midnight tonight!
Motorists are being urged to take care on the roads this Easter long weekend with double demerits coming into force from midnight tonight.
Police and road safety minister Michelle Robert said police will be targeting regional roads with a number of motorists expected to head out of town for the break.
“This weekend should be all about family and friends and not remembered for years to come with tragedy,” she said.
“There will be a huge police traffic presence on the roads this Easter to help curb road trauma by targeting dangerous and illegal driving behaviour.”
Speed, drink and drug driving, inattention and failing to wear a seatbelt will be the main focus for police.
In the past four Easter long weekends there were 15 fatal and six critical road crashes.
Double demerit points will apply from 12.01am Thursday until 11.59pm on Easter Monday.
