A 20-year-old Waikiki man has been charged after allegedly causing a serious crash in Perth's south-east before assaulting a police officer during his arrest.
The accused was driving a Holden Rodeo utility on Albany Highway in Beckenham around 7.30pm on Saturday when he allegedly drove through a red light at the intersection of Kenwick Link and William Street.
He allegedly caused a crash involving several other vehicles including a Toyota Camry, Honda CRV, Mitsubishi Lancer and a Toyota Kluger station sedan.
The male driver of the Toyota Camry was taken to hospital for treatment of his injuries.
No other road users required hospital treatment.
Police attended, arrested and subsequently charged the driver of the Holden Rodeo.
It will be alleged during the man’s arrest, a police officer was assaulted, and was taken to hospital for treatment of his injuries.
The 20-year-old man from Waikiki has been charged with a string of driving offences including no authority to drive, driving under the influence of alcohol and dangerous driving causing bodily harm.
He is due to appear in Perth Magistrates Court today.
