Preliminary works have started on the $9 million upgrade to the Pinjarra Road and Mandurah Road intersection.
The intersection will be widened from four lanes to six to accommodate for future traffic as the redevelopment of the Mandurah Forum nears completion.
As part of the road widening project, the City has arranged to relocate 32 grass trees from the intersection and has replanted them in the median space further along Pinjarra Road towards Ranceby Avenue.
The contract works will start in early May and there will be no road closures during the project, however traffic management will be in place to control the movement of vehicles throughout the construction phase.
The works are expected to take around six-and-a-half-months, with the upgrades due for completion towards the end of October.
Chief Executive Officer Mark Newman said the intersection had to be upgraded as part of the Mandurah Forum Redevelopment.
“It is the City and Main Roads WA’s vision to expand the roadworks to accommodate the future traffic demand and thus remove the need for future works and subsequent disruption to motorists,” he said.
“We are excited to see the new Mandurah Forum redevelopment progress, but to accommodate the growth in vehicle numbers, the upgrade of the intersection and road widening is essential. We appreciate the community and local businesses’ patience during this time.”
The $9 million upgrade project is being jointly funded by the City of Mandurah, Main Roads WA and Vicinity Centres.
