Read the statement from the City of Mandurah.
There have been a number of ongoing reports regarding vehicles and motorbikes accessing bush land at the end of Placid Waters Parade, Coodanup and along the foreshore at Riverview through to Frasers Landing.
This area is home to a number of sensitive and threatened species including banksia woodland, which is a very important food source for endangered black cockatoos, and samphire flats, which provide food resources and much needed shelter for the internationally significant migratory shorebirds that visit Mandurah each year when they migrate down from Siberia. It is also a refuge for local wildlife such as quenda, commonly known as bandicoots.
We need your help to tackle illegal off-road vehicle and motorbike activity in your area. Being the 'eyes on the street' and, importantly, reporting incidents will help tackle this issue.
The City will continue working with Police to prevent illegal riding on roads and reserves and motorbikes will be seized if offenders are located. You can help us to protect our beautiful natural environment by reporting any incidents of off-road biking or driving to:
Rangers 9550 3777
Police 131444
Crime Stoppers 1800 333 000
When reporting these incidents, please collect the following information:
• The locations where bikes are housed
• Descriptions of the rider and bike
• Days of the week and times where the riding is occurring and any photographs or footage that is taken if it is safe to do so.
If vehicles are involved, please provide the colour, make and registration details of the vehicle. This will enable Rangers and Police to follow up.
In addition, the City is seeking updates from the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries on progress in the identification of potential sites where off road bikes can be legally used in the region.
Information provided by the community is essential to help us protect this area.
