An addition $171 million has been injected into the state governments plan to address the ice scourge.

The McGowan Government has pushed ahead with its Meth Action Plan strategy to eradicate the use of meth and its effects on the community.

Recently opened Wandoo Rehabilitation Prison in Murdoch, is not only the first of its kind treatment prison, it's also a crucial step in attacking the meth crisis.

Female prisoners from across the State with less than six months remaining on their sentence, can apply to attend the treatment facility and receive follow-up care upon release.

The McGowan Government cited the prison program as 'innovative and forward-thinking', aimed at breaking the cycle of drug addiction and reducing drug related offences.

A second treatment prison for male prisoners is expected to open in late 2019.

The Meth Border Force also received a cash injection of $104.1 million to boost police enforcement activities, targeting the supply and distribution of meth.

An additional 100 police officers and 20 specialist and support police staff will be at the forefront of border force operations.

The WA Police are also being equipped with the latest state-of-the-art technology to combat the meth trade, including a Meth Truck that is fitted with an x-ray unit and deployed to drug transit routes across WA, targeting drug traffickers.

In the last financial year, WA Police cracked down on meth dealers across WA and seized a record 1.403 tonnes of crystal meth, $11.26 million in cash and deconstructed 15 clandestine drug manufacturing laboratories with 185 offenders charged.

Member for Mandurah David Templeman said the McGowan Government was also tackling the meth crisis at a legislative level.

“One of the first pieces of legislation our government introduced was to increase the maximum penalty for meth traffickers to life imprisonment," he said.

“We are continuing to deliver our Meth Action Plan to stop the scourge that is destroying lives and tearing families apart.

“The rehabilitation prisons will give prisoners a chance to break the awful cycle of drug related offending and reoffending.

“The Meth Truck will be deployed on drug transit routes across the State and will help stop drug traffickers from bringing meth into our community."

The Meth Action Plan has been designed to focus on prevention, protection and prosecution with a whole government response.
