A new $15 million energy hub has been opened in the Peel region which is set to bring together Western Power services and operational staff into one location.

The purpose built facility combines the Mandurah and Waroona depots, and will enhance customer response times while improving employee safety and environmental outcomes.

The depot features a large-scale original artwork by Bindjareb elder Gloria Kearing, which depicts native frogs and western long-necked tortoises representative of the Pinjarra and Murray region.

Energy Minister Bill Johnston said Peel's new energy hub will improve response times during storm and fire emergencies by bolstering access to major transport infrastructure.

"It underlines the McGowan Government's commitment to ensuring critical services for homes and businesses in the Peel region are met," he said.

"As a key player in the State's energy transformation strategy it's critical that Western Power has the right buildings, equipment and employees to continue to deliver essential services."

Murray-Wellington MLA Robyn Clarke said the Pinjarra depot will be staffed by women and men from our community who understand the local landscape and will provide a critical service to the Peel region and surrounds.

"The magnificent artwork outside the depot is a wonderful celebration of the traditional landowner's connection to the land and is on display for our entire community." she said.
