A Halls Head mine worker has been jailed for nearly three years after selling 4.3kg of stolen gold valued at almost $400,000.
Harley-David Charlton was employed at Karora Resources’ Higginsville Gold Mine when he and other employees, including his brother-in-law, stole gold nuggets between 2022 and 2024.
The 35-year-old then sold the nuggets at various gold retailers at shopping centres across Perth including Rockingham Shopping Centre in exchange for $225,000.
Charlton was caught when he attempted to deposit $37,000 into his bank account.
The transaction caught the eye of his bank who then contacted police.

Charlton was then arrested at his Halls Head home before telling officers the gold belonged to his grandmother which he was selling on her behalf.
He was then rearrested the following month and admitted to his role in the theft.
Charlton will be eligible for parole after serving 17 months of his sentence.
