About 6:20am this morning, Police received an emergency call regarding an incident on Rottnest Island.
Information received was that an incident occurred at a jetty near Thomsen’s Bay, and that multiple people were injured and possibly trapped.
A multi-agency response to the incident is taking place. This includes the deployment of the RAC Rescue Helicopter, and Water Police vessels from Fremantle.
Volunteers from Fremantle Sea Rescue were initially deployed aboard two of their rescue vessels, however they have since been stood down and are returning to shore.
At this time the following information is believed to be the most recent:
- At least three people believed to have been fishing off a jetty at the southern end of Thomson’s Bay.
- Part of the jetty appears to have collapsed.
- Two people were able to get to shore safely.
- One person is believed to have been trapped due to their foot becoming trapped. This person was freed by people responding to the emergency.
- Police are waiting for confirmation regarding a potential fourth person involved (who is believed to be safe on shore).
At this time the extent of their injuries are not known, but are not believed to be serious.
