Swim clinics offered to children

Children in Mandurah will get the chance to meet Olympic swimmer Kylie Palmer this weekend at free swimming clinics and pool party.

Optus and Swimming Australia have partnered up to introduce Australia Swims, a campaign aimed to encourage all Australians to celebrate their love of swimming and boost their confidence around water.

This Saturday and Sunday children aged 5 - 12 are invited to the Mandurah Aquatic and Recreation Centre to take part in the Mandurah marquee event, with free entry being offered to all swimmers.

Four Optus Junior Dolphin Clinics will run over the two days offering play-based learning for swimmers to build confidence and skills in the water.

The clinics and carnival are free for the community to participate, but parents need to register there children here. 

The City of Mandurah is offering free entry to competitors and discounted rates to parents and spectators at $1.30.

As part of the Mandurah event Olympian, Gold Medallist and current member of the Australian Dolphins Swim Team Kylie Palmer will be making an appearance at the pool around midday to meet and greet the participants.

Swimming Australia President John Bertrand AO the purpose of the Australia Swims campaign is to reconnect Aussies with their love of swimming.

"Swimming is a life skill and favourite pastime that can be enjoyed by all ages, all abilities and all cultural backgrounds," he said.

“The swimming industry is uniting to engage the Australian public in this swimming movement and we’re really excited by it."

Australia Swims is hosting a nine day event promoting all types of swimming experiences from indoor pools to beaches and waterfalls.

They've set the challenge to virtually swim around Australia, tackling 35,877 kms, swimming past 10, 685 beaches, using over 24 million people to complete just one tiny lap in nine days.
