Construction has officially begun on a $13 million waterfront brewery at Long Point in Port Kennedy.
Long Point Brewing Co. is located on a prominent beachfront site next to the recently opened Long Point Park.
It's projected to attract 180,000 visitors annually and support 100 jobs during construction.
Built by Hoskins Contracting and designed by MJA Studio, Long Point Brewing Co. will feature a two-storey brewpub, including an independent craft brewery, restaurant and function space - capable of accommodating up to 500 guests.
Member for Secret Harbour Paul Papalia said the brewery will help boost the region’s economy, while adding significant value to the local community.
"The addition of a high-quality brewery in Kennedy Bay will not only create more jobs for locals and attract more tourism to the area, but importantly will mean locals can enjoy a world-class hospitality experience right next to our stunning, north-facing coastline," Mr Papalia said.
Brewery Co-Founder Shane Wormall said it was vital to create a venue that honours the area’s history while blending contemporary design with classic nautical themes.
“Having grown up in the area I wanted to make sure the brewery feels like it belongs here," Mr Wormall said.
“Before it evolved into Kennedy Bay, the area was known as Long Point and we are proud to pay homage to that history in a contemporary venue. We’ve all put a lot of thought into how this development will fit into the natural landscape while respecting the area’s history.
"For boating enthusiasts, the location offers a world-class bay with protection from the sea breeze, making it an ideal spot for a relaxed visit. Small boat owners will be able to moor up overnight and enjoy everything Kennedy Bay has to offer, especially as a family-friendly destination.
"Long Point will also showcase local produce in its restaurant and craft its own range of beers, contributing to WA’s thriving brewing industry."
The Kennedy Bay development is a joint venture between Shane Wormall of Wormall Group and West Australian Beach & Golf Resort (WABGR).
