A Cooloongup man is due to face court next month after allegedly stealing 50 metres of copper cabling.
The man allegedly gained entry to an exchange site on Rockingham Road in Wattleup between 3.30am and 3.45am on Saturday, September 12 and removed the copper before placing it in the back of his car and leaving the area.
Police located the man at a nearby cemetery on Mandurah Road where the seized the cabling and arrested the 29-year-old.
He has since been charged with stealing and is due to appear before the Fremantle Magistrates Court on October 12.
"The WA Police Force is actively targeting copper theft across Western Australia, working in partnership with industry stakeholders to strengthen compliance and implement effective prevention measures," a WA Police spokesperson said.
"Licensed second-hand and scrap metal dealers are legally required to record the identity of anyone selling scrap copper or copper alloys.
"All reports of copper theft are thoroughly investigated, with a strong focus on identifying and prosecuting offenders."
