Halls Head man charged after police chase

PIC: File

A 41-year-old man has been charged after allegedly failing to stop for police in Baldivis overnight.

Around 9:30pm, officers in an unmarked police vehicle were driving on Kwinana Freeway, near Karnup Road, when they observed a Toyota Camry being driven above the speed limit.

The vehicle was intercepted and both the Toyota Camry and the police vehicle pulled over into the emergency lane.

As the officers exited their vehicle to speak to the driver, the vehicle sped away and the officers lost sight of it.

The vehicle was last seen driving in a reckless manner using the emergency lane to pass vehicles on the freeway.

Several minutes later the officers came across the same vehicle, which had crashed into another vehicle, at the intersection of the Kwinana Freeway off ramp and Safety Bay Road.

The driver of the other vehicle involved in the crash received minor injuries.

It's alleged the 41-year-old failed a breath test and was driving an unlicensed vehicle and was issued an immediate disqualification notice.

The Halls Head man has been charged with failure to stop, reckless driving (to evade police), excess 0.08 per cent and used an unlicensed vehicle on a road.

He was refused bail and is due to appear in the Rockingham Magistrates Court today.
