Halls Head man claims winning Lotto ticket after hearing local radio report

A Halls Head man has come forward as Western Australia’s latest millionaire, with his ticket turning into $1,279,122.

The man who works in the mental health care sector decided to check his ticket after hearing a local radio report.

“The funny thing is the other week I checked my ticket and got excited when the bell went off, but then I felt annoyed because I only won a small amount,” he said.

“Turns out when the bell didn’t go off this time, it meant I had won a lot more.”

The man in his 50's said he plans to take some time out with his wife to ensure they make the right decision with their winnings.

He said he enjoyed playing Lotterywest games and the fact it helps to raise money towards important WA community groups.

“I know it goes to community, so I don’t mind playing, we see it as a donation,” he said.

Western Australia has a chance to add another millionaire to its ranks, with today’s $50 million OZ Lotto jackpot the biggest prize the game has offered since July 2018.

The last OZ Lotto jackpot to be claimed in WA was in October 2018, when a syndicate of 22 people from Albany won $10 million.

Lotterywest media spokesperson James Mooney encouraged players to talk to their local Lotterywest retailer about the different ways to share the cost of buying tickets, and the winnings.

“The big OZ Lotto jackpot for $50 million this Tuesday is a great chance to get together with friends or colleagues and buy a syndicate ticket,” Mr Mooney said.

“You can split the costs and share the joy if you win – it would make for quite a party.”
