The State Government has announced the operators of the new family and domestic violence women's refuges in Peel and Kwinana.
Formerly known as the Pat Thomas House, the renamed Ovis Community Services has been awarded the contract to operate the Peel Family and Domestic Violence Therapeutic Women's Refuge.
This will be the very first refuge to offer therapeutic support to women as well as providing coordinated tailored services and accommodation for women and children escaping violence.
The Lucy Saw Centre Association has been awarded the contract to operate the Kwinana Family and Domestic Violence Women's Refuge.
The Kwinana refuge will provide safe accommodation for women and children escaping domestic violence with a focus on women with disability, older women and indigenous women.
Prevention of Family and Domestic Violence Minister Simone McGurk said family and domestic violence is an awful reality for too many women and children in Western Australia.
"It can have serious and ongoing impacts on their health, including physical injuries, poor mental health, reproductive health problems, harm from alcohol or other drugs and - in our most tragic cases - death," she said.
"I look forward to ongoing partnerships being developed in the establishment of these new and much-needed services, which will provide vital specialist services for women and children escaping violence."
Construction on both refuges has doubled the accommodation capacity and is ahead of schedule with service delivery to begin by the end of the year.
