Hundreds of kites will be flying above Rockingham Beach Foreshore on Saturday November 30.

It is the City of Rockingham's first ever Kite Festival and will be held as a part of their Summer Series of free, family-friendly events.

The festival will give people the chance to experience a sea of colour as kites of all shapes and sizes fly above the foreshore, featuring penguins, pelicans, koalas, whales and sharks.

The event will include a variety of stage entertainment acts throughout the day, including acoustic artists, a drumming performance, a Mauritius Sega dance performance and a ‘Bumble Bee Ballet and Boogie Bus’.

Kite making workshops will be held from 10am until 2pm and children under the age of 12 can enter into a competition to win a prize for creating the best decorated kite.

The event will also feature a giant maze for people of all ages to enjoy.

Mayor Barry Sammels encouraged the community to get involved in the City’s Kite Festival.

“The City of Rockingham Kite Festival will decorate the foreshore skyline with a variety of wonderful shapes and colours,” Mayor Sammels said.

“Those who participate in the kite making workshop will be able to show off their creative skills by flying their kites together.

“With so many kites flying high at the same time it is sure to be a stunning sight to see. I encourage the community and visitors of all ages to come down to our revitalised foreshore to rediscover Rockingham and get involved in this exciting event.”

The City of Rockingham Kite Festival will run from 10am – 4pm at the Rockingham Foreshore.
