The City of Rockingham have officially launched its new Compost at Home Waste trial, with 400 residents taking part in the innovative project.
Compost at Home is aimed at creating more sustainable waste solutions, giving the local community the opportunity to create a greener home and reduce the amount of waste they produce by utilising composting.
Those involved in the trial will provide ongoing feedback to the City over the next 12 months, with information going back to the Council to guide their future waste initiatives.
City of Rockingham Mayor Barry Sammels said composting was a sustainable waste solution that the City was committed to exploring in further detail through the initiative.
"Developing sustainable waste solutions is a key objective in the City of Rockingham's Strategic Community Plan and the Compost at Hom trial will provide us with valuable information that can be used to shape how we deal with our waste in future," he said.
"Composting is a fantastic way to reduce the amount of waste that is produced at home. Not only does it help reduce the level of emissions created from waste that ends up in landfill, it also create a nutrient-rich compost that can help your garden flourish."
