A 19-year-old man has had his car impounded after police initially stopped him for a breath test before connecting his vehicle to two alleged hoon incidents.
The man was stopped on Read Street in Rockingham last weekend during a WA Police blitz targeting impaired and dangerous drivers in the area.
He allegedly returned a blood alcohol reading of 0.162, more than three times the legal limit.
Further inquiries allegedly linked the vehicle the man was driving to two outstanding hoon-related incidents.
He has since been charged with driving a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol, issued with a disqualification notice, and the vehicle was impounded.
He is due to appear before the Rockingham Magistrates Court on October 29, 2026.
As part of the blitz, four police teams operated across Fremantle, North Coogee, Rockingham, Golden Bay and Mandurah between 7am and 2am on Saturday, September 19 and Sunday, September 20.
Officers conducted more than 6000 breath tests and 200 drug tests.
They caught 302 people speeding, 24 for driving unregistered vehicles, 18 with drugs in their system, 14 under the influence of alcohol and 20 driving without a licence.
Seven vehicles were also impounded.
"There is simply no excuse for the behaviour detected during this operation. Officers encountered drivers affected by alcohol and illicit drugs, motorists speeding, and people driving without authority, despite the well-known risks and consequences associated with these offences," Commander Mike Peters said.
"The vast majority of road users do the right thing, but a small number continue to make reckless decisions that endanger everyone around them. WA Police will continue targeting these drivers wherever and whenever they choose to take that risk."
