Ahead of the busy festive season on our roads, the City of Rockingham is launching its Safe Speed Promise campaign, with community members encouraged to take the pledge and drive safely.
The campaign aims to increase awareness in the community of the impact that speeding can have.
Residents are able to participate by picking up a Safe Speed Promise bumper sticker and placing it on their vehicle.
Stickers are available at the City’s Administration Building on Civic Boulevard, at all four libraries and will also be made available at the City’s up and coming Summer Series outdoor cinema events.
City of Rockingham Mayor Barry Sammels said it was important people understood the impact their actions on the road had on others.
“Speeding is a serious issue that can have devastating impacts on our roads, which is why the City has committed to rolling out the Safe Speed Promise campaign,” Mayor Sammels said.
”Many people will be driving more frequently in the weeks and months ahead, so the City encourages motorists to make the Safe Speed Promise and take extra care behind the wheel.
“City fleet vehicles will also display the bumper stickers during the campaign, setting an example to community members that the City is pledging to drive safely.”
The launch of the Safe Speed Promise follows the World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims, which took place on Sunday 17 November 2019.
The City’s Safe Speed Promise reads as follows: “As every life is precious, I will drive as if my loved ones are on the road ahead. I will not put other people at risk by speeding. Drive so others survive #DriveSOS”
