The new SJ Reuse Shop is opening its doors to customers on Saturday October 1.
Located at the Watkins Road Transfer Station and Recycling Centre, the SJ Reuse Shop will be home to an assortment of pre-loved items including clothing, kitchenware, sporting goods, and more.
A ‘Swap N Shop’ will also be available for customers to bring in children’s items and swap them for free.
The new store is part of the Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale initiative to encourage residents to recycle their pre-loved items and reduce the amount of waste going into landfill.
This will allow the community to shop for unique items at low prices while also benefiting the local environment.
Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale President Cr Michelle Rich said the shop will be a wonderful asset to the community and environment.
“By 2024 the Shire aims to be recycling and reusing at least 65% of its waste, a goal outlined in our Waste Management Strategy,” Cr Rich said.
“Currently 40% of waste received at the Watkins Road Waste Transfer Station and Recycling Centre is diverted from landfill for recycling, and the SJ Reuse Shop will be a significant contributor in helping us achieve our overall goal.”
From October 1, the SJ Reuse Shop will be open every Saturday and Sunday from 9 am to 3 pm.
