More than 5000 surf lifesavers from across the country are set to flock to Perth's beaches in 2022 for the Australian Surf Life Saving Championships.

Nicknamed 'The Aussies' - the world's largest Surf Life Saving event will be held from April 2-10, 2022 at Scarborough, Trigg and Secret Harbour beaches and has the potential to attract more than 8,000 competitors, visitors, spectators and support crew to WA.

Western Australia last hosted the event in April 2018 at Scarborough and Trigg beaches, generating about $15.8 million.

The main events of the 2022 event will be held at Scarborough beach, with beach sprints and relays at Trigg and board riding at Secret Harbour.

Adding to the action will be the Aussies festival zone in Scarborough, which will include food trucks, swimwear retailers and activities for families.

"It's exciting to welcome these championships back to Scarborough, Trigg and Secret Harbour beaches, all of which are great locations from which locals and visitors can soak up the sun and the action," Tourism Minister David Templeman said.

More than 80,000 followers of Surf Life Saving Australia's Facebook page will also be able to view the action at Western Australia's renowned beaches via a livestream of the event.

The Aussies consists of more than 480 beach and ocean events, and brings together members from 315 Australian surf clubs.
