The Peel-Harvey Catchment Council has announced the launch of its 2020-21 Community Environment Grants (CEG) Program.
The popular Grant program assists landholders and community groups to protect key environmental assets by directly funding on-ground works such as fencing of bushland, and weed and feral animal control.
This year, the CEG program focuses on four priority areas in the Catchment: on-farm native vegetation Numbat conservation, Banksia Woodland protection and Black Cockatoo habitat.
A total of $370,000 is available to landholders and community groups to support successful projects across these priority areas, within the Peel-Harvey Catchment.
PHCC Chair, Caroline Knight, launched the program recently, urging farmers, landholders, community groups, local governments and schools to consider potential projects and on-ground works.
‘Our CEG Grants are a great way for our community to receive assistance to for on-ground works to protect the environment and natural resources on their farm or local reserve’, said Ms Knight.
The 2019-20 CEG program targets a number of threatened species and types of bushland, as well as assisting landholders more broadly who may wish to protect bushland or native vegetation on their farms.
‘This year CEG is very much about both environmental restoration and sustainable farming. Protecting and restoring the environment is not only good for our grandchildren, but also good for farming and long-term farm profitability’ said Ms Knight.
Applications close on 31 August, 2020, and landholders and community groups are encouraged to discuss their project idea and eligibility with the Peel-Harvey Catchment Council as soon as possible.
