City of Rockingham residents will have the opportunity to show their appreciation for volunteers as the City hosts a number of free gift-making workshops during National Volunteer Week 2019.
National Volunteer Week, which runs from Monday 20 May to Sunday 26 May 2019, is an annual celebration held across the country to acknowledge the generous contribution volunteers make to the community.
The City will be hosting four workshops to celebrate National Volunteer Week. The first will be a kokedama arrangements workshop, which will be hosted at the Warnbro Community Library from 5.30pm to 7pm on Monday 20th May.
Kokedama is a form of Japanese garden art and participants will learn how to make a kokedama arrangement that they can give to a worthy volunteer.
On Tuesday 21st May, the City will then host a mini floral posy workshop at the Mary Davies Library and Community Centre in Baldivis. Two sessions will be held from 3pm – 4pm and 5pm – 6pm. Those taking part will be making small bouquets of flowers which can be given to a volunteer.
At Rockingham Central Library on Wednesday 22nd May residents will be able to create a mini succulent garden from 2pm – 3pm, while a card making workshop will also be held at Safety Bay Library on Thursday 23rd May from 10.30am – 12.30pm.
National Volunteer Week will then be capped off with the City’s Volunteer Recognition Celebration on Thursday 23rd May at the Gary Holland Community Centre. The event will recognise and pay homage to a number of nominated local Rockingham Volunteers.
City of Rockingham Mayor Barry Sammels encouraged the community to get involved with the free workshops being held across the City’s libraries. Numbers are limited and registrations are essential.
“The City of Rockingham is filled with a large number of hardworking volunteers, who all do an amazing job for their respective clubs, community groups and not-for-profit organisations,” Mayor Sammels said.
“National Volunteer Week is an opportunity for us to take a step back and recognise the outstanding role these volunteers play in making our community such a fantastic place to live. I encourage all residents to get involved with the City’s gift making workshops and show a worthy volunteer just how much they are valued.
“If you want to become a volunteer don’t forget the Rockingham Volunteer Centre (RVC) is available to help. Contact the RVC on 9528 8670 or email volunteering@rockingham.wa.gov.au.”
The City also thanks Volunteering WA for supporting its National Volunteer Week activities with a grant.
