Mandurah Historical Society President Claire Cavanagh is Mandurah's latest Local Legend.

Claire has been recognised for her efforts and dedication to preserving local histories and sharing her knowledge to the community and school groups.

Having been part of the Mandurah Historical Society for 21 years, Claire was made a life member of the group in 2015 and has amassed a wealth of knowledge about local histories and events.

Mayor Rhys Williams said Claire was heavily involved with several local heritage events, including the annual Pioneer Day celebrations which have been held in Mandurah for more than 20 years.

“Claire is a fantastic custodian and advocate for Mandurah’s rich history, and we congratulate her on many years of involvement in preserving and celebrating heritage in Mandurah and the Peel region,” Mayor Williams said.

“Claire makes sure Halls Cottage is open to the public every Sunday, accommodates school groups, and shares her knowledge through the community to ensure local histories live on. She was also pivotal in organising the 190th birthday celebrations for Halls Cottage earlier this year – she gives so much to our community.”

The Mandurah Historical Society is run by volunteers, and money is raised through stalls, raffles, and applications for grants.
