Mandurah has topped a list of WA postcodes for the number of hardship payments handed out to help pay electricity bills.
Households are doing it so tough amid surging electricity prices they have had their power cut off or are on the brink of disconnection and have pleaded for an urgent State Government bailout.
A list of the WA postcodes that received the most Hardship Utility Grant Scheme (HUGS) payments in 2016-17 reveals that Mandurah is the worst-affected.
1693 grants worth $680,088 were approved for Mandurah households while in Warnbro it was 863 grants worth $343,881.
Treasurer Ben Wyatt told Seven West Media up to 97 per cent of HUGS applications had been approved in the past three years, “meaning those needing help are being helped”.
