Port Kennedy father bashed outside home by group of men

Rodney Butler was bashed by a group of men outside of his Port Kennedy home on March 5.

Police are hunting for a group of men who bashed a Port Kennedy father outside of his home, shattering his leg.

Rodney Butler, 45, was watching television with his eight-year-old daughter at his home on Hood Court around 7.40pm on March 5 when he heard the sound of glass smashing out the front.

When he went to investigate he was confronted by five men.

Mr Butler said they asked for a person by the name of his 18-year-old son, who was inside the home at the time of the incident.

“I said no I’m his dad and then I just got king hit from behind,” he said.

The father-of-three was punched and kicked before one of the men produced a weapon and struck him in the leg.

“I knew instantly they broke it, I yelled out ‘you broke my effing leg’,” Mr Butler said.

The men then threw chairs through the front window of Mr Butlers home, showering his daughter in glass, before fleeing the scene.

Mr Butler said he does not know why he was targeted or why the group asked for his son.

“I’ve asked him (his son) what it was all about and he’s guessing,” he said.

The 45-year-old was rushed to hospital shortly after the incident where he underwent surgery on a broken leg.

He also suffered a fractured cheek bone, bruising and cuts.

Rodney Butler’s leg was broken in the attack.

Mr Butler said he is a supervisor for a crane hire company and is now unable to work for six months.

The men are described between 20 and 25-years-of-age, Caucasian and some had tattoos on their arms.
