Organisations planning events for Thank a Volunteer Day celebrations can now apply for State Government grants of up to $1,000.
Grants are available for not-for-profit, community and local government authorities across Western Australia, to support celebrations and functions that help raise the profile of volunteers within the community.
An estimated 80 per cent of Western Australians aged 15 years and over donate time each month to a local community cause.
This contribution equates to more than 315 million hours each year and underlines the significant impact that volunteers have on thriving communities.
Volunteering Minister Reece Whitby said whether it's turning snags on the barbeque at local footy or netball clubs, or responding to emergencies during floods, fires or cyclones, volunteering is an established part of our culture.
"WA volunteers deliver important benefits to the community, individuals and organisations alike," he said.
"The McGowan Government's Thank a Volunteer Day Celebration Grants program provides an important opportunity for local communities to get together and recognise our volunteers for the vital role they play."
Events will be hosted on International Volunteer Day on December 5 in recognition of the special contribution that volunteers make.
Applications for the 2021 Thank a Volunteer Day Celebration Grants program close at 4pm Thursday, August 5.
Further information and instructions on how to apply are available on the Department of Communities website.
